Storyline of Flora and Son Part 2: What it able to be about?

The story revolves around Flora, who is trying to make ends meet and parent her son along with her ex-husband, Ian. She works in her way to keep her son out of trouble in Dublin, only to be met with his teenage angst.

She picks up a guitar from a dumpster to give it to her son, who refuses the instrument and the idea of him having to play a guitar as a hobby. He also states that he is into electronic pop, hip-hop and trap music.

Ian and Flora are at loggerheads in terms of bringing up their son, with Ian spending less time with him. Flora tries to win his love back, but Ian has moved on with his love life making it hard for her to come to terms with.

She is a wild child with a sharp tongue, who has a child of her own, whom she had when she was 17. Losing her adolescent and teenage years to parenthood frustrates her and she often lets it out on her son, making him want to run away from her and the place as soon as possible.

As her son refuses to use the guitar, she picks it up and even hires a teacher for classes via Zoom.

Though it starts on a wrong note, she comes around to take her lessons and music seriously and her teacher, Jeff, makes it possible for her to ease into the soulful journey by learning chords and writing music and lyrics that everyone might enjoy.

This long-distance relationship gives her another chance in love, though they both decide not to be vocal about considering their past and present responsibilities.

What happened at the end of Flora and Son Part 1?

Directed by the infamous Irish director John Carney, who is known for his critically acclaimed and hailed movies of all time- ‘Once’, ‘Begin Again’ , is back with ‘Flora and Son’ which has quirky fun elements throughout the movie and connects with the audience through music.

Always known for his romantic and feel-good movies, John Carney brings this beauty on screen making the viewers fall in love with the flawed character Flora, who is a single mother.

She conceived her son at a very young age and that shows in her attitude and the way of dealing with situations in her life. She tries her best to make her son stay away from troubles in the risky city of Dublin.

She ends up picking a guitar from a dumpster to give to her son so that he could have a hobby which might distract him from doing other illegal things. When her son refuses the guitar and cites that this isn’t his taste in music, she grudgingly ends up utilizing the guitar for herself.

She takes lessons from Jeff, an American teacher via Zoom, where he teaches her chords and how to write songs through finer notes.

The beautiful scenes in Flora and Son are those where they both connect through music while working on new and old ones, the gradual development in their relationship could be seen.

On one hand, Flora finds her voice and peace through music and finds a new zeal to life which doesn’t revolve around her son or trying to make ends meet. Whenever the class in the Zoom call proceeds, you get to see Jeff come out of the screen making it more than just a long-distance video call chat.

Their feelings are reciprocated on screen each time when Jeff appears out of the Zoom call in Flora’s room, indicating how close they have become and how differences between space and time are nothing but an arm’s length away.

Flora’s ex-husband, Ian and Flora co-parent their son together, but it seems difficult as Ian has moved on to have a family of his own. While Flora finds it hard to get back with Ian, wondering if he was her love, her guitar lessons and a soul connection with Jeff make her understand that love for her is not something to be aligned with her past.

The movie ends with Flora and her son, with Jeff and his other bandmate playing music through Zoom, and Ian at bass, performing on stage at a small pub, showcasing how music transcends and connects relationships.
