Bjork Orkestral, Icelandic singer-songwriter, announced a series of “unplugged” concerts. The concert dates initially announced for the summer of 2020 have been pushed back because of the COVID-19 epidemic. Later, it was announced that a four-part concert series would take place at the Harpa concert hall in Reykjavik in August 2020. However, the concert series was postponed until the months of October and November 2021 due to new restrictions imposed by the Icelandic government in response to the pandemic.
Kvennaathvarfið is a women’s refuge in Reykjavik, and all four performances were live broadcast to generate money for it. Each performance had a new lineup of artists, as well as distinct equipment and set lists. Bjork was accompanied on stage by over one hundred Icelandic musicians for each of the four matinee concerts. These performances were some of the first live performances with an audience by a big international vocalist since COVID-19 decimated the live music industry.
