The official news is here! WOWOW has recently shared a teaser of Ao Haru Ride Season 2 on November 10, 2023. The teaser was worth the wait as it gave us a glimpse of a new cast member and the PREMIERE DATE! It is January 19, 2024, for you squealing fans.

The new character, Yui Narumi, is played by Karin Fujiyoshi. The rest of the cast remains the same, with Deguchi Natsuki and Sakurai Kaito as Futaba and Kou, respectively. Ao Haru Ride Season 1 came out just recently, on September 22, 2023.

Ao Haru Ride Season 2 Storyline: What Would It Be Able to Be About?

Ao Haru Ride, or the Blue Spring Ride, is a shojo drama that is full of romance, drama, and comedy. It captures the innocence of first love and friendship as well as the revival of love. The story revolves around a girl, Yoshioka Futaba, and a boy, Mabuchi Kou (previously Tanaka Kou in middle school), and their sometimes bitter, sometimes sweet love story.

In middle school, when they first met, Kou was warm, sweet, and caring, and that was why our female lead, Futaba, fell for him. However, they get separated because Kou moves away for three years and comes back to the same school as a high schooler.

But here’s the catch: His name and personality have both changed. He has become cold and closed off, and Futaba goes on to learn about his tragic past, slowly and surely falling for him yet again. Does Kou harbor romantic feelings for Futaba, too? Will they ever confess to each other? Will they finally be together and get a happy ending?

This show is binge-watch-worthy if you are an avid drama-lover.

What Happened at the End of Ao Haru Ride Season 1?

Kou’s jealousy becomes quite prominent when he sees Kominato trying to get close to Futaba and sits between them. This makes Makita jealous. We, as viewers, see a flashback where he used to be his usual happy self, but everything changed when he found out about his mother’s terminal cancer and that she had only six months left to live.

He became very depressed. We are also introduced to a character named Kikuchi Toma, who bumps into Futaba when she is about to get Kou for their English group study session. Yochi (Kou’s brother) tells Futaba that Kou hates him because when their mother was in her last days, he was swamped, and everything fell on Kou’s shoulders.

Soon after, there is a very romantic and emotional moment between Kou and Futaba, where Kou confesses his feelings to Futaba, but she is too nervous to confess. Kou also makes up with his brother at Futaba’s request.

Kou starts concentrating on his studies, and the entire group of friends do well in their exams. During the Festival scene, Makita tries her best to woo Kou, which makes Futaba jealous.

On the other hand, when Futaba’s dress gets spoiled, Kikuchi helps her, which triggers Kou, and he tells Kikuchi off by stating Futaba is his GIRLFRIEND! Futaba resolves the matter. Makita confesses her feelings to Kou, but he rejects her. (Fun Fact: Makita already knows Kou likes Futaba).

At the end of the show, As Kou and Futaba walk home together, Futaba screams at a passing train that she likes Kou while he can’t hear her and asks her to repeat, but she gets too nervous and says nothing. Episode 8 ends with a kiss, and they end up getting very close.
