Storyline of Truelove: What is it able to be about?
The plot as given by IMDb, might sound simple, but it isn’t. The subject dealt with in this show is very difficult to even talk about let alone show. What happens when a person is old and is leading a life so painful and dull that they begs to die memorably?
They do not want to waste away or die a painful death rather they want to die in a way that people remember them and they create an impact with their death- Something they probably couldn’t do when they were alive.
What was just wishful thinking and a drunkenly made pact between a group of elderly people turns into something quite unexpectedly drastic. What was the pact?
The pact was that instead of letting each other die a slow and peaceful death, they would orchestrate a dignified death. This is one of those shows that will make you question whether murder can be done in an ethical way or not.
Truelove Season Episode Recap?
Episode 1 starts with a funeral and the tone overall is very gloomy and morbid. Phil (short for Phillipa), an ex-senior police chief attends the funeral of one of her friends who dies of old age. There, she meets her old lover Ken who is an SAS Veteran.
As they both talk about their lives we find out that Ken is now a divorcee and both of them sigh how life feels so boring and meaningless and they all are waiting just to die. Soon they meet their other friends and this group of old friends drink up to remember the old times.
Soon they get so drunk that they end up making a pact “Truelove ” where they orchestrate the death of a group member who is about to die due to an illness.
This type of assisted death would help them not suffer a painful death. They forget this pact once they come back to their senses.
However, when one of them, Tom finds out that he has only a month to live as he has cancer in his lymph glands, liver and pancreas.
Instead of dying a painful death, he requests Phil and Ken to kill him in a crafted way and after a lot of back and forth they do it for the sake of true friendship.
In Episode 2, Tom’s dead body washes ashore (Phil and Ken had killed and dumped Tom’s body in the sea.) Now this body is found by young police officer Ayesha Kareem. While Phil and Ken try their best to go back to their old life, Ayesha starts an investigation.
In Episode 3, Ayesha finds evidence of Tom’s murder and another friend of Phil and Ken’s group becomes seriously ill. Marion’s health is deteriorating and she indicates that she wants to be killed rather than die like this.
In Episode 4, Ayesha starts suspecting Phil, her mentor, as something is off with her behavior and Tom is one of her acquaintances. Meanwhile, Phil and Ken rekindle their romance and Ken reconnects with his family.
