What Is The Storyline Of My Dearest

The story’s backdrop is the Qing invasion in the Joseon period. People were suffering because, to survive, they had to sacrifice their happiness and regular livelihood.

What Happened At The End Of My Dearest Season 1?

Jang Hyun and Gil Chae were having a romantic time talking about their future together when bad news knocked at their doorstep. King Injo acts like the tyrant he is and pressures scholar Jang Cheol to frame innocent people as traitors.

Jang Cheol is determined to find out who the leader of the rebels is. He asked his favorite disciple, Yeon Joon, to find the leader. This is when we fans gasp as the secret is out—our hero Jang Hyun is in fact the leader! Jang Hyun is cornered by the king’s men, and he meets Jang Cheol, who shocks the scholar yet again by revealing his true identity.

He is Jang Cheol’s long-lost son! Jang Cheol had beaten his sister’s lover Sam Do to death, and since then he has absolutely despised his father. Jang Cheol doesn’t even repent of what he has done, nor does he try to bond with his son; instead, he orders Yeon Joon to kill his son.

However, though we are shown Jang Hyun losing the fight to Yeon Joon, we don’t get to see his dead body, nor do his lover Gil Chae or his enemies. Years later, King Injo and Jang Cheol kill themselves (yes, kill off the bad guys).

While Yeon Joon tries to do the same out of a conscience prick, his wife stops him, and he does sort of redeem himself when he tells Gil Chae that Jang Hyun is still alive with the help of Gak Hwa.

Gil Chae finds him, and then Happy Ending! But with a bit of a downfall, Jung Hyun has amnesia but somehow remembers Gil Chae, which counts as a happy ending!

On IMDb, it scored 8.9 out of 10, with lots of reviewers rating it a solid 10/10. To many fans, My Dearest was carried by the cast. Their acting made even the bad decisions of the characters look reasonable. And the twist was a pleasant surprise.

The finale, episode 21 of My Dearest, had a record-breaking viewership with over 12.9 of the average nationwide rating. Not only this, but the show became one of the top shows among the age groups 20–49.

This makes us even sadder to announce that there may not be a second season because the star cast gave us a happy goodbye, saying the set experience was wonderful and they would miss it.

My Dearest Season 1 Review

I love how the show portray their relationship or non-relationship and its gradual build up. They do not like each other at first but curious, mostly Lee Jang Hyun. Because he hadn’t met woman like her. He finds her amusing, like to play along with her antics because it’s fun and fascinated at how self assured she is.

Acting is superb. I know Nam Goong Min is a great actor but what blew me off is Ahn Eun Jin’s acting. She really knows how to use her facial expressions and her voice. Music seems to be in tune with what they want to convey. The show seems to go for classical music everything in the show screams classic.

My Dearest Season 1 has 21 episodes in total, with Part 1 having ten episodes and Part 2 having 11 episodes. Each episode has a runtime of 1 hour and 20 minutes. Since Season 1 was the first and last season of My Dearest, we cannot really say how many episodes Season 2 can have.
