Since Mary was the director of risk management it was her responsibility to save the hospital from losing its reputation because of having any connections with a murderer, because of this she did lie to the professionals about the data and other proof that she had which might be the reason for her guilt which led to a nervous breakdown and lose of weight during the investigation.

After everything was solved she was promoted from the post of director to the vice president of her department for handling the situation incredibly.

Who was Charles Cullen?

Charles Cullen was an American nurse who killed hundreds of people being a medical professional. He was born in West Orange, New Jersey. He completed his education at West Orange High School. After his graduation, he joined the navy where he tried to kill himself and was given psychiatric help but was discharged soon. 

Later on, he completed his nursing from Mountainside Hospital’s nursing school in New Jersey. After his graduation, he started working at Saint Barnabas Medical Centre in New Jersey. He committed his first murder there and continued to kill people there. 

His personal life was also not very well from trying to commit suicide to divorcing his wife his life was a mess. He wanted to quit nursing but couldn’t as the court asked him to provide child support he kept changing hospitals and killed hundreds of people. In 2002 he started working at Somerset Medical Centre and kept killing people there as well he usually overdoses them or gives them wrong medicines that are not prescribed.

The hospital authorities started to doubt Charles’s actions as he often went to the wards of the patients he was not assigned to and kept getting medicines that weren’t prescribed for his patients. There are records of 29 patients being killed but in 16 years of career his career he had killed more than 100 patients.

He was mentally unstable and was still working due to his responsibilities he stated that he used to kill people to save them from their sufferings as he was not able to see them suffering. He often used to observe the patients for a few days and then decided to kill them. His depression took over him he said that he couldn’t remember killing people in the past but when shown the proof he would admit he killed them.

He was given a life sentence and now resides in a New Jersey state prison. Mental health is not a joke it’s something that can harm yourself and others in this case as Charles was suffering himself he couldn’t see others suffering unaware of the fact that he was making them suffer.

After the matter cooled down Mary was promoted from the position of director to the Vice President of the department of quality and risk management. She likes to stay low profile after the incident as there are people who still think that she should also be held accountable for the incident as she tried to hide the matter to save the hospital.
