Women’s lives were never in their own hands; they were mere puppets in the hands of the clergymen. For Lorna Brady, her life since the age of fifteen has been confined in the walls of Kilkinure Convent, one of the Magdalene asylums.
Pregnant out of wedlock, she was a shame to society and thus needed to be uprooted from her home and sent on this lonely exile.

Released on August 27, 2023 on BBC One, The Woman in the Wall is a six-episode mini-series. The first episode is titled “Back to Life”, the second episode is “Show Thyself” which came out on August 28, 2023.

As the second last episode of The Woman in the Wall Season 1 aired very recently, one cannot presume the second season’s release so soon. The announcement for the release of the first season happened back in 2022 and then after a year we got the series.

The Woman in the Wall Storyline: What would it be able to be About?
Based on the ancient concept of Magdalene laundries where women from all walks of life, who are fallen in the eyes of the society because of their wasteful, unacceptable actions, are confiscated and kept like prisoners by the Church, in order to bring them back on the right path.
The Woman in the Wall is the story of Lorna Brady (played by Ruth Wilson), a fifteen year old girl who got pregnant and was immediately sent to this institute. Her child was snatched away from her, neither was she ever informed about the whereabouts of this baby nor was ever given a chance to see her own child.
Her physical and emotional isolation was slowly pushing her towards insanity, until one day when her asylum closed off and everyone was sent away. With a past record of sleep-walking, as Lorna wakes up one morning, she neither has any clue to how she got back home nor any information of the person lying dead in her living room.
As she gets to solve the murder mystery, one incident leads to the other and she realizes that the body is not of any other random stranger but someone with whom her life is intertwined in a highly complex way.
Not only this one murder but another murder takes place of Father Percy. The clues of the investigation of even this murder lead to Lorna. As Lorna buries the corpse in her living room wall, many other skeletons are out of the cupboard that she has to deal with.

With the murder of the priest, Detective Colman Akande (played by Daryl McCormack) arrives at Lorna’s doorstep. The detective’s sharp intelligence and inquisitive mind makes him come very close to solving the case.

Simply put, season one of The Woman in the Wall was eerily beautiful. Tight plot, impeccable casting and a witty detective all put together, captured and controlled the very soul of the narrative, not giving audience even one chance to find a loophole.
The Gothicism that oozed out of the asylum and house scenes makes us fear, but also at the same time ask for more. When the first season is at its cinematographic brilliance with all top-notch actors, doing their very best, expectations from Season 2 naturally arises.
