One running joke throughout the series is that Smiling Friends Inc. is really bad at its job. She sends Pim and Charlie whose only task was making her unhappy son smile again. When he gets himself into hot water, Pim and Charlie must intervene to put him back on track.

However, it happens that she becomes a diva frog who cannot be pleased at all. Alan, another employee of Smiling Friends Inc., goes looking for his missing cheese bit. Although, through this search, he ends up in increasingly weird and dangerous places.

On the other hand, the son turns out to be a sociopath who delights in seeing others suffer. Their workers are mostly incompetent and actually worsen things for their clients.
