Record of Ragnarok Season 2 Recap Summary

Although it’s enjoyable to anticipate the arrival of Record of Ragnarok season 3, it is undeniable that the second season outshined the first season in terms of animation quality and the depiction of intense battle sequences.

In the initial segment, rounds four and five took place where there was a confrontation between Jack The Ripper, representing Humanity, and Hercules, representing God.

A large number of fans believe that it was the most outstanding battle of the season. Jack the Ripper emerged as the winner in a remarkably artistic manner.

In the sixth round, Lord Shiva faced off against Raiden in battle. Lord Shiva’s powerful Tandava dance overwhelmed Raiden’s abilities, resulting in the gods’ victory in this round.

In the second part of Season 2 of Record of Ragnarok, Buddha, who symbolizes Humanity, had a confrontation with Zerofuku, the original deity of the Seven Lucky Gods.

Afterward, Zerofuku became a part of Hajun, but a wise Buddha, wielding the awakening power of the celestial eye, Mahapari Nirvana, terminated Hajun’s existence and released the spirit of Zerofuku.

What Happened At The End Of Record of Ragnarok Season 2 Part 2?

In the manga and anime, it is believed that every 1,000 years, gods from various pantheons come together at the Council of Valhalla to decide the future of humanity.

However, after an incredibly long period of seven million years, the gods finally reach a consensus to eliminate humans due to their increasing greed and selfishness. Brunhilde, the Valkyrie, voices her opposition to this decision.

By invoking Article No. 62, paragraph 15 of the Valhalla Constitution’s super special clause, she reminds the gods of their agreement and persuades them to permit a tournament. This tournament will feature human champions known as the Einherjar, who will engage in individual battles against the gods in order to defend humanity.

It is acknowledged that humans, regardless of their abilities, cannot match the gods’ physical prowess and stamina. However, the Valkyries intervene and transform into divine weapons for the Einherjar through a process known as Völundr.

At the start of season 2 part 2, the gods are leading with a score of 3-2. In the beginning, most spectators in the arena anticipate Buddha to be on the side of the gods in the upcoming fight against humanity. However, when Buddha steps onto the field, he unexpectedly changes allegiances, which comes as a surprise to almost everyone except for Brunhilde, who had been longing for this outcome.

Zeus discloses that Bishamonten, the Shinto God of Fortune in war and battles, is Buddha’s rival. Bishamonten merges with the other Lucky Gods, ultimately transforming into their original form, Zerofuku.

Like many anime, it is common to see combatants experiencing flashbacks from their past while they fight. In this case, we discover Buddha’s journey to becoming the most formidable teenager in the world and why he appears to be angry with the gods.

Furthermore, we learn how he found solace within himself after losing a brother-like figure, Jataka, and the idea of finding inner happiness.

Zerofuku, a former benevolent god, used to willingly bear the suffering of humans until he realized their decline into a morally corrupt state, exposing their true character. It was during this time that he crossed paths with Buddha, who taught him that bringing happiness to others cannot be imposed. Initially, Zerofuku intended to annihilate humanity, but instead he divided himself into seven fragments. Since then, the Seven Lucky Gods have harbored resentment towards Buddha.

In the end, Buddha emerges as the victor, but something transformational happens to Zerofuku during the battle as he reverts back to his older, more jovial self. Just as it appears that the sixth round has concluded, Zerofuku’s previously detached red horns suddenly become animated and pierce into his head from both sides.

This shocking spectacle catches the attention of the spectators in the arena. Suddenly, two dragons materialize and envelop Zerofuku, encasing him in a protective cocoon.

A malevolent creature comes out from it and announces himself as Hajun or Papiyas, the powerful ruler of the Sixth Heaven in demonic form. Just like in previous instances, ‘Record of Ragnarok’ combines various mythologies. Hades, the overseer of Helheim, appears and reveals that prior to his current role, Papiyas was the renowned berserker of that realm.

Even though Papiyas appears to be much stronger than Buddha, Buddha persists in his fight. Eventually, Buddha discovers Zerofuku’s Misery Cleaver, which causes their souls to combine and create a weapon called Völlundr.

This transforms the cleaver into the powerful Great Nirvana Sword: Zero. Due to Papiyas’ soul being enveloped in darkness, Buddha is unable to utilize his ultimate strategy against the Demon King, known as the Eight Consciousness or his ability to foresee the future.

However, as the battle continues, Papiyas begins to feel scared, giving Buddha the opportunity to utilize the Eight Consciousness once more. Eventually, Buddha deals a fatal strike to Papiyas using a technique named Blade of the Celestial Eye’s Awakening – Mahaparinirvana.
