Apple TV plus show Presumed Innocent is all set to air on June 14, 2024. The show is adapted from a novel by Scott Turow title Presumed Innocent in 1986, which is still one of the bestselling novels of Turow.
A movie of same title was released in 1990 starring Ford in the lead, which went onto become one of the top crime thriller movies of all time. Courtroom drama, affairs, deceits and betrayals make this series one of the most anticipated series to be adapted on screen for 2024.
Presumed innocent Season 1 Synopsis: What Can You Expect?
The series revolves around Rusty Sabich, a prosecutor who is falsely accused of murdering his colleague. Rozat, infamously called Rusty Sabich, is the right-hand and a prosecutor of the district attorney Raymond Horgan.
He is forced by Raymond to take up the case and investigation of the rape and murder of his fellow colleague, Carolyn Polhemus. Rusty gets involved as one of the suspects as he had an affair with Carolyn, though he was a married man.
Carolyn apparently broke ties with him, as she felt he might not be of great help in advancing her career. Rusty got back with his wife after that but still had considerable interest in Carolyn.
Molto, who was the head of the homicide squad, joined the rival and opposition sides for campaigning. Rusty uses his cards to replace the detective with his friend so as to avoid his name being involved in the investigation.
Raymond later on admits to being romantically involved with Carolyn before and is also frustrated with the way the investigation is going. Rusty gets targeted somehow by Molto, as Malto has seemingly made his own inquiries into the case.
The killer is somehow detected to be an insider as they are cleaning up the clues and making the evidence turn out to be not futile.
The investigations resulted in figuring out the blood type of the killer is A, which instead points fingers towards Rusty, who has the same blood type. When the opposite party wins the District Attorney elections, Della and Molto form ties to accuse Rusty of the murder.
They team up to create evidence against him, where Rusty’s fingerprints and other details are seemingly found in Carolyn’s apartment, making him the prime suspect. Rusty’s friend is taken out of the case, and the initial detective assigned gets back to the case, disclosing the affair between Carolyn and Rusty.
Based on the basic plot of a crime and murder, the plot revolves around the prosecutor wrongly accused of killing someone whom he was once involved with, and there starts a labyrinth of lies, deceit, betrayal and unearthing of a web of lies and issues surrounding the law.
Fan Anticipation for Presumed innocent Season 1?
Continuing from the plot line mentioned above, Rusty gets suspected of being the murderer of Carolyn, and when all evidence points at him, he hires a defence attorney. When Raymond testifies against him, he is caught off-guard.
Later on, he gets to discover that Carolyn has a file of a bribery case involving higher officials. He gets to discover more truth surrounding the bribery case that involved a guy named Leon Wells.
Stern, the defence attorney of Rusty, makes this a pivotal point in the court, citing that the opposition defence and Molto have conspired together to make Rusty the prime suspect in the case, and the bribery case might be the real reason for the murder of Carolyn.
With more details of the case and past relationships of Carolyn gets discovered, we get to see that Rusty is not the murderer after all, though he was targeted by people around him for their own benefit.
It was later revealed that Rusty’s wife, Barabara, had murdered Carolyn because of the affair. When Rusty was handling the investigation, she made it evident that she was the one who committed the crime with all evidence pointing towards her but she didn’t expect Rusty to be targeted as the prime suspect.
It is shown that the case remains unsolved due to lack of evidence, and the previous evidence acquired or planted against him went missing in between the court sessions. As Rusty can’t get his kid to be separated from his own mother, he lives with the guilt of being the one who has caused the event of Carolyn’s murder.
