Eslabon Armado

Eslabon Armado was established in 2017 by three friends who were all teenagers at the time: Pedro Tovar, who sings lead and plays requinto guitar; Gabriel Hidalgo, who plays guitar and sings harmony; and Bryan Tovar, who plays acoustic bass and bajoloche and also sings harmony. The music of their parent’s generation served as a significant source of motivation for all three members of the trio individually.

They started learning and performing rancheras and norteo music when they were little youngsters, and they did so professionally before they ventured out on their own to produce original material. When they were still in their teens, they were moved to create music after hearing a performance of sierra music by one of its most influential exponents, the late Regional Mexican singer Ariel Camacho with Los Plebes del Rancho, who topped the charts in his region. Following his passing in 2015, the category was left with a gaping hole.

When Pedro and Bryan’s father, an amateur composer, decided to give them the name Eslabon Armado, he did it slightly unintentionally. They sought to create alternative music incorporating a wide range of instruments while faithfully maintaining the guitar-driven aesthetic of the sierra style. The group shared their live footage across multiple social media sites, including YouTube. Ngel del Villar, the proprietor of Del Records and promoter, has been listening to and seeing their music videos without their knowledge. He went to great lengths to track them down and secure their signatures before any other label could.
