“Can You Feel the Love Tonight” is a song from Disney’s 1994 animated picture The Lion King. It was composed by Elton John and features Tim Rice’s lyrics. It was described as having “the most diversified history” in the film by Don Hahn (the film’s producer), Roger Allers, and Rob Minkoff (the film’s directors). It was a major success in the United Kingdom, peaking at number 14 on the UK Singles Chart.
Even more so in the United States, it peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100. The song reached the top of the charts in Canada and France. It received the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 67th Academy Awards in March 1995. The song also earned Elton John a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance that year.

History of Can You Feel the Love Tonight Song
Tim Rice and Elton John wrote the song, which was played in the film by Kristle Edwards (also known as Kristle Murden), Joseph Williams, Sally Dworsky, Nathan Lane, and Ernie Sabella, while Elton John delivered another version during the film’s end credits. It was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song in 1994. Elton John also won the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for this song.
Within approximately one and a half months of the film’s June 1994 premiere, John’s song was distributed as a commercial single via radio stations and entered the Billboard Hot 100. John’s music video features montages of him performing the song and scenes from the film.
In 2003, the song was reworked and re-sung by Elton John for the Special Edition soundtrack of The Lion King.
The romantic sequence where the song was initially featured was reprised in The Lion King, but with a twist: interspersed with the romantic scenes were short humorous shots of Timon and Pumbaa attempting to interrupt Simba and Nala’s night out, with the “Peter Gunn Theme” playing in the background.
