Season one of Higehiro starts off with Yoshida getting his heart broken by the girl he was secretly in love with for the past four years. After this incident, Yoshida and his best friend Hashimoto go out drinking.

On his way back home, a drunk Yoshida stumbles across a teenage girl in a school uniform, shivering in the rain. Sayu Ogiwara then asks to spend the night with him. Yoshida agrees, but they sleep in separate rooms. In the morning, Yoshida comes to know about Sayu’s sad backstory.

It turns out that Sayu ran away from her home in Hokkaido and had been sleeping with men for food and shelter. This made Yoshida very sad and worried, and he allowed Sayu to stay with him. As the two settle in, their different worlds crash with each other. Sayu finds a part-time job at a nearby convenience store and makes a best friend, Asami.

Meanwhile, Airi Gotō becomes jealous of Yoshida living with a teenage girl and starts to develop feelings for him. When everything was going fine, Sayu was discovered by his brother one day. This might mean that she has to return home.

What happened at the end of Higehiro season 1?

The first season of Higehiro was an emotional and heart-touching ride, and the finale did not disappoint either. Yoshida talks with Sayu’s mother in the season finale and explains how her daughter feels. After this, Sayu and her mother have an emotional moment where Sayu describes why she left home, and her mother also realises her mistakes.

Her mother explains that Sayu must stay with her until she completes high school, after which she can choose the path she likes. After sharing an emotional mother-daughter moment, Sayu is relieved about her guilt of leaving home.

That night Sayu sneaks into the guest room where Yoshida is staying and tells him that she would like them to sleep in the same room one last time. The next day, when it was time for Yoshida to leave, Issa tells him how grateful he is to Yoshida for keeping her sister safe.

He tells him to come visit Sayu whenever he feels like it and asks if Yoshida has feelings for her. A blushing Yoshida denies it, but it is very visible that he has feelings for Sayu. Later Sayu and Yoshida say their goodbyes.

However, Sayu confesses her feelings for Yoshida and asks him to wait for her return. She promises him that she will return to Yoshida after finishing her studies. Yoshida tells her to have a good life ahead and hold onto the memories they shared for the past year.
