Far North is an adaptation of the well-documented non-fiction book Underbelly: Inside NZ’s Biggest Meth Bust, written by Jared Savage. The plot begins with a boat carrying 500 kg of meth arriving in Hong Kong only to break down at the Ninety-Mile Beach named Te-Oneroa-a-tohe.
Due to this incident, their Chinese crew got stuck in the sea. Fearing their discovery, the crew members try to move their goods along the shore, but their incompetence attracts the suspicions of the Northland locals.
Heather and Ed are two loving and down—to—earth couples who live with the locals. Ed is a 70-year-old Maori diesel mechanic, while his wife is an aqua aerobics instructor.
They helped the crew members nurse back to health and also helped them in launching their boats back to sea. However, the couple soon realizes that there is something wrong with their behaviour, that there is something big going on in their locality.
What happened at the end of Far North (2024) Season 1?
Season 1 of the series concludes with the gang members getting arrested after the police found conclusive evidence of their crimes with the help of the couple. In the end, the couple smartly tackled the situation.
They handed over the GPS tracker, whose language was changed from English to Chinese. Thinking it is safe to venture out, Cai and Sam eventually go out into the sea but get stuck in the middle.
They realize their dreams of freedom have been shattered. Most of the characters get arrested, and only Ling commits suicide, leaving her small daughter orphaned. Most of these members owed a debt to their respective syndicates.
Jin, Bi and Hui promised to stick together. Louie had a child coming on the way, and he needed to earn money to provide for his family. At the end of the day, he realizes that it would have been much easier to do small jobs than take an easy way out.
