The PlayStation 3 version was released via the PlayStation Network on August 31, 2010, in North America and December 3, 2010, in Europe. On August 16, 2012, a Microsoft Windows version, exclusive to Steam, was announced.

The game is set in a fictional medieval environment in which a bad wizard kidnaps four princesses after stealing a mysterious gem. The king assigns four knights to rescue the princesses, recover the crystal, and apprehend the wizard.

Gameplay Of Castle Crashers

Castle Crashers is a side-scrolling hack-and-slash game with a healthy dose of RPG elements. After selecting a character, the player selects a starting stage from an overworld map.

After completing a stage, the player can return to it or continue on to the next. Additionally, the map indicates where the player character can spend cash obtained from defeated foes, bosses, and crates for items and weapons. Unlocking arena stages enables the player character to complete tasks and earn new characters, such as the villager.

Castle Crashers can be played locally or online by up to four players. The player who is further along in the game determines which stages are unlocked, though some levels require all players to unlock them before proceeding; however, each player character gains experience points and acquires wealth, weapons, and animal orbs independently of the progress of the rest of the party.

Each stage allows the player to use melee and combination attacks. Juggling is a technique in which a player leaps onto an opponent and performs various combinations on it, such as the lightweight juggle, which can be performed frequently and swiftly by pressing XXYY on the Xbox controller (or square, square, triangle, triangle on the PlayStation).

To confront opponents, each character possesses a unique magical power and a life meter that results in the character’s death in battle when depleted by enemy attacks. In single-player mode, this terminates the level; however, other players may attempt to resuscitate the downed character in cooperative multiplayer.
