This program accomplishes a lot of things well. The artwork is stunning, and the tale is engaging, albeit somewhat clichéd and undeveloped. Where it fell short was in the areas of animation and editing.
Beautifully designed figures remained almost totally immobile in each scene until they were obliged to talk or do an action. When they did move, the animation was sometimes somewhat subpar.
In terms of editing, they could have easily shaved off more than five minutes from each episode by halving the time spent “setting the scene.” There are several breaks between stories, during which the program utilizes lengthy-panning views of the countryside or other outrageously long dramatic pauses.
The time might have been far better spent fleshing out the backstories of some of the secondary characters, or it could have been omitted entirely. I rate the first season a 7.5/10 maybe; a second season will offer more character development and less symphonic pauses; if so, I would gladly suggest the series to my friends.
