Arctic Monkeys are a Sheffield-based English rock band that formed in 2002. Alex Turner (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Jamie Cook (guitar, keyboards), Nick O’Malley (bass guitar, backup vocals), and Matt Helders (drums, backing vocals) make up the band (drums, backing vocals). Andy Nicholson (bass guitar, backing vocals) quit the band in 2006, shortly after the release of their debut album.

With their critically praised fifth album AM (2013), which was followed by the global smash “Do I Wanna Know?” the band’s international success grew even further. It reached number one on four Billboard charts and was certified platinum in the United States. The album was their third to win British Album of the Year at the 2014 BRIT Awards.

Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino (2018) marked a significant change from the band’s prior guitar-heavy output instead of focusing on piano. It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album, their second after Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not.

With their first five albums, the band became the first independent-label band to debut at number one in the United Kingdom. The band has received seven Brit Awards, including three for Best British Group and three for British Album of the Year, making them the first band to ever “do the double” (win in both categories) three times; a Mercury Prize for Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not; and 20 NME Awards.

They’ve also been nominated for five Grammy Awards and were selected for the Mercury Prize in 2007, 2013, and 2018. NME’s and other versions of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time lists feature both Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, and AM.
