Smokey thought it was all over when he was detained, but it turned out to be a publicity hoax to promote Top Secret abroad. Not until he arrived in Japan did he learn that his try at A1 had already gone viral, garnering the exact type of attention he had hoped for. The news traveled so quickly and far that an Emirati Prince eventually acquired the Supra that Smokey had driven.
Smokey modified another Supra after the Emirati Prince acquired the first one in 1998. This time he used a 5.0L V-12 from a Toyota Century, two HKS GT2540 Turbos, and his own Top Secret body kit to route cooling air through the trunk. His goal in creating this vehicle was to see if it could go faster than 400 kilometers per hour (about 249 miles per hour).
Smokey took the car back to the Aqua-line after an aborted attempt at the Nard Ring in Italy, where he reached 358kph (or 222mph). However, it only reached 370 kph (229 mph), falling short of the target speed of 400 kph (249 mph). In 2017, it was auctioned off and sold.
The story of Smokey Nagata’s 200 mph run had been passed around the underground racing community for a while, but it wasn’t until the 2010s that it really took off thanks to platforms like YouTube and social media. Even though it has been over 20 years after his spectacular run, Smokey Nagata is still actively working on Top Secret in an effort to surpass the 400 kilometer per hour benchmark. Smokey has always been brand agnostic and frequently combines components from other manufacturers to create Frankenstein-like, bright gold (winners only receive gold) Vmax machines. Over the years, he has driven every iteration of the GT-R, beginning with the R32. Later, his R33 Skyline GT-R achieved 0–300kph in 17 seconds at Yatabe and 204mph in the tunnel, which was likely the inspiration for the A1(M) run.
Max Power, the tuning bible, occupied the driver’s seat for the Aqua-Line run. Max Power was a unique customized automobile magazine aimed at younger readers. Along with Gatso jousting, car park racing, and asking what your favorite coloured orifice was, it had significant influence and became ingrained in the zeitgeist, selling about two hundred and fifty thousand copies per month. So when the company offered to pay to take Smokey and his car to the Max Power Live performance, he accepted. Then, the notion of traveling at 200 mph arose. “Otherwise, I would have become bored,” he continues, lighting another cigarette and placing his Zippo lighter in his jacket’s top pocket.
“Max Power had the concept to go really fast, and the Supra was capable of doing so. It featured an RB26DETT engine from a GT-R – Toyota’s 2JZ engine is wonderful for low-end torque, but we wanted high-end power, and I could work on it more easily – but the Supra’s bodywork and aerodynamics were excellent for peak speed. I wanted as much attention as possible for the best photography and videography.”

Top Secret Co., Ltd. (株式会社トップシークレット, Kabushiki-gaisha Toppu Shīkuretto) is a Japanese automobile tuner and parts maker. Kazuhiko “Smoky” Nagata, a Japanese automotive engineer and race car racer, created the company.
The company is mostly recognized for its performance engineering and body kits. Top Secret is renowned for its illegal Wangan high-speed runs, professional drifting, circuit racing, and drag racing. Many Top Secret-tuned vehicles are distinguished by their gold paint schemes. This paint scheme is only applied to automobiles that Nagata deems to be his best work.
Ryuji Miki won Round 5, and, ultimately the 2004 Japanese D1GP title driving a Top Secret Nissan Silvia S15. In 2005, Miki won an exhibition race in a Nissan Fairlady Z at the Silverstone Circuit in the United Kingdom.
In 2007, Yoichi Imamura placed third in Round 3 at Suzuka and Round 6 at Autopolis. In the same year, Imamura also won an exhibition race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The 2007 Tokyo Auto Salon Championship was won by Top Secret’s “Final Evolution” V12 twin-turbo Toyota Supra.
Top Secret revealed at the 2017 Tokyo Auto Salon an R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R with the engine, drivetrain, and interior of the more recent R35 Nissan GT-R. The tuning business christened this automobile the “Skyline VR32 GT-R.”
