Storyline of The Shepherd (2023) Part 2: What it able to be about?

The story of Shepherd takes place in 1957 on Christmas when Freddie Hook is upset about not being able to visit his family because of his leave request being denied by his superiors.
He finds out that his partner has been told not to fly because of an arm injury even though he has been granted a leave. Freddie wastes no time to take this opportunity and replaces his partner by requesting permission to go home from his superiors. He is soon cleared to fly home after checking the weather conditions.
Freddie starts flying in Vampire when he is given the orders to fly over the North Sea. Just after a while, the vampire starts malfunctioning and results in a failure because of which Freddie gets stranded in an unknown location.
He tries to get in touch with Lakenheath but that attempt fails too. Freddie in a desperate attempt flies in a triangle pathway hoping that someone spots him on the radar. In a short while, Freddie notices that the vampire is running out of fuel and the tank will soon be empty.
Freddie starts thinking about his past with Lizzie and decides to pen down a letter for her thinking he will never be able to meet her again. He then tries to contact another plane that was flying near him. Freddie sees that the plane is a Mosquito and soon the pilot helps him by guiding him through the dense fog.
After reaching the ground, Freddie comes across SGT Joe Marks and tells him that he had to land a vampire at an abandoned base. Freddie then sees a picture of the pilot who guided him through the fog and to his shock Marks confirms the identity of the Mosquito pilot to be John Kavanagh.
According to Marks, John went missing in 1943 during Christmas while on a patrol. Freddie is obviously shocked after hearing this and then he gets approached by officials from Miriam St. George.
After Freddie tells them about Marks’s assistance, they claim that Minto has been in isolation for years now and no one has occupied it. Freddie then proceeds to look at the sky one last time before leaving.
