The anime is set in Bakumatsu era, and it tells the story of a legendary and renowned assassin. Hitokiri Battousai is a feared assassin among everyone of the trade, his skills and his fearless killings set him apart to become one of the most notorious names in the century.
HE was unmatched in his peak but later on when the Japanese Revolution neared, he mysteriously disappeared from existence.
