The plot of Meiji Gekken revolves around the lives of multiple people who live in the Meiji Era of 1874. The characters live their individual lives until they find themselves together in a vast conspiracy to take the present government down.

Shizuma Origasa is the main hero of this story, who has been through the brutal Boshin War, where he saw many of his Samurai friends die a terrible death. Shizuma Origasa cut off his top knot, left his sword and the Aisu Domain and became a rickshaw puller in Edo, all in search of his fiancee, Kanomata Sumie.

However, in his search, he gets recruited into a police force meant to topple the present government. The story also focuses on a Yakuza bodyguard, a deadly assassin posed as a geisha and a dangerous spy who all fit into the conspiracy.

What happened at the end of Meiji Gekken: 1874 Season 1?

Season 1 of Meiji Gekken: 1874 has yet to be released entirely. As of now, only four episodes are out, and the plot is already picking up pace. In the latest episode, we saw that Shuragami has become an official member of the Moriya clan.

He is supposed to fight in the Gekkenkai on behalf of the Moriya Clan. Meanwhile, Hiramatsu has realized the fact that he is being cheated in the opium export business. He desperately wants to teach Moriya a lesson, so he teams up with Dario, who is an expert archer, and an older man named Genjo to frame the Moriya Clan.

And how do they do that? They destroyed a cargo full of contraband drugs and left fake proofs that linked the act to the Moriya Clan. Meanwhile, Shizumu was collecting stray dogs as his punishment for disobeying orders given to him in the previous episodes.

While he was doing his assigned duty, he came across the dead body of Tachibana. He was a swordsman who had come to compete in the Gekkenkai. To investigate the matter further, our hero decides to participate in the Gekkenkai.

At the end of the episode, we see that both Shuragami and Shizumu have qualified, along with characters like Goro Fujita, swordswoman Koto, western man Blaze Miller, Raigan, Takarai and Fuyukichi Yoshikawa.

In the next episode, we’ll witness intense battles and, finally, a one-on-one battle between Shuragami and Shizumu. Wee also hopes to see the Moriya clan getting caught and realize the trap Hiramatsu has put them into.

What will happen in Season 2 spoilers and expectations?

Season 2 will have some backstabbing and reunions. The plot will eventually get more complicated as our main character, Shizumu, finds help among many grey characters with only one mission in their mind: to take down the government.
