After a lot of anticipation and waiting since 2019 when the previous season aired. It was finally announced that the show would not be renewed for a third season.

Premier Date and TVNextSeason, both reputed sites for this information, have reported that the show will not be picked up by Hulu for another season.

Fans can enjoy the episodes that are on the air right now and hold out hope for a potential revival. There is still potential in the series but it needs better writing than what was displayed in the second season.

While it is impossible to say what would have happened in Light as a Feather Season 3 given that the series stands cancelled as of now, there are numerous possibilities as to where the story could have gone. The mysteries of the second season were not entirely solved.

Chief among these was the fated return of Peri. Just like Violet in the previous season, she too came back to life and was bound to return in the subsequent season.

It is also likely that she would remain the antagonist for the remaining run of the show. There is also the mystery of the chrysalis being transferred to Henry, shifting the spotlight onto him.

Lastly, we have the big question..”Where does the curse originate ?” The term Cabaan is thrown around a bit in Season 2 and people would have loved to see how it comes into play with the demonic origins of the curse.

Season 2 of Light as a Feather released on July 6, 2019, centred around the tribulations of McKenna, the new host of the curse. The season also introduces the pivotal characters of Peri and Margaret. They are, respectively, the romantic interest of Alex and the survivor of the very first game of Light as a Feather.

The season also sees the redemption of Violet, the primary antagonist of the previous season. In one of the best parts of the series, Violet’s past is fleshed out for the audience and we see the extent of her helplessness, which in combination with self-preservation leads to her actions. Over the season Violet grows to help the gang out immensely.

Her motivation is to get revenge for her brother’s death (caused by Violet) which makes her a complex antagonist.

The season also sees the occasional possession of McKenna by her twin, Jenny and the introduction of an urn that can supposedly break the curse. There are many plotlines and secrets that you experience as we head into the season finale.

The finale titled “Brave as a Lion” aired on October 4, 2019, along with the rest of the season. McKenna, after struggling the entire season, is in a state of stasis as she communicates with her twin’s spirit. The chrysalis on her back is about the hatch and everyone is on the timer to break the curse.

To complicate things, Peri has the urn and accepts to trade it for Alex. Violet and Alex manage to pin down (literally) Peri using heavy machinery and locate the ashes in the urn. McKenna orders her sister’s spirit to leave, ridding herself of the curse which has also seemingly spread to Henry.

As one last twist, we see Peri’s eyes flash open – she’s not dead. As part of the curse, one can only die in the predicted way…this also means that the curse still lingers leaving the doors open for Light as a Feather season 3.

light As A Feather Storyline

The series is based on Zoe Arasen’s book of the same name and follows a relatable group of high-schoolers consisting of Olivia, McKenna, Alice and Candace.

In episode one Light as a Feather season 1 we are introduced to Violet Simmon, the new girl, who is invited to a Halloween night out with the gang after some high school shenanigans.

It is on this fateful night that Violet suggests a modified version of the classic sleepover game.“Light as a Feather, Stiff as a board”…“Light as a Feather, Stiff as a board”…“Light as a Feather, Stiff as a board”…goes the usual chant but this time Violet predicted the deaths of each of the other characters present there.

These gruesome deaths that were dismissed as jokes lend way to legitimate horror as Olivia dies in the very next episode, exactly as Violet had predicted.

The spectre of death now looms over each character in the main group as the audience tries to uncover the secrets of the curse placed over them by playing “Light as a Feather.”

As the first season wraps up we find out that Violet was cursed and carried an outgrowth on her back due to it. She had passed on the curse to the whole group except McKenna whose future she could not predict.

Light as a Feather Season one wraps up with another death (that of Candace) and a repetition of the ritual. McKenna technically dies by going into another realm to her twin Jenny, who takes the curse unto herself seemingly undoing it.

We find out later that Violet has been arrested but no longer has the curse attached to McKenna (or at least to her body)

Light as Feather sits at a not-so-great 50% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a solid 81% audience score. On IMDb, it is at a respectable 6.5/10 based on almost four thousand audience scores. It also sits at a decent 6.3 on Metacritic.

The consensus seems to be that the first season was really good and set up a solid mystery series. The problems emerged in the second season as the series struggled to maintain intrigue and kill-off characters. This in turn lead to the viewership decline that caused the series’ cancellation
