Before becoming a motivational speaker and writer. Gardner worked as a broker in Gardner Rich & Co., an “institutional brokerage firm specializing in execution of debt, equity, and derivative products transactions for some of the nation’s largest institutions, public companies.
It was founded by Gardner in 1987 in Chicago, Illinois. It specialized in supporting those with financial struggles and focused on public pension plans. As he slowly built his empire, In a multimillion-dollar agreement in 2006, Gardner sold his minor ownership in Gardner Rich.
He then went on to form and serve as CEO of Christopher Gardner International Holdings. He has offices across the USA, in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco. While in South Africa, Gardner also met Nelson Mandela during his visit to witness elections around the 10th anniversary of apartheid’s end.
He wanted to negotiate potential investments in the country’s developing economies. Gardner was trying to organize an investment project. The project would inject millions of foreign cash into the national economy and generate hundreds of employment opportunities.

Thomas Turner and Bettye Jean Gardner welcomed Gardner on February 9, 1954, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was Bettye Jean’s only son and her second child. Ophelia, his elder half-sister, is from a previous marriage. His mother’s marriage to Freddie Triplett produced his younger sisters, Sharon and Kimberly.
Because his father was living in Louisiana when Gardner was born and because his stepfather physically abused both Gardner’s mother and sisters, Gardner did not have many male role models in his early years.
His mother always told him to depend on himself. He used his struggles as a motivation to have a better life. Gardner also concluded from his early experiences that he wished to stay away from alcoholism, domestic violence, child abuse, illiteracy, fear, and helplessness in the future. On June 18, 1977, Virginia math teacher Sherry Dyson and Chris Gardner were married. But while he was still married to Sherry. He started dating a dental student named Jackie Medina. Three years after they were married, Gardner and Sherry got divorced. Jackie was pregnant with his baby.
He started a new life with Jackie and became a father. The divorce between Gardner and Sherry was finally granted in 1986, although it took nine years to reach that point. His son, Christopher Jarrett Gardner Jr., was born on January 28, 1981.
