Flames is a story of fiction about the main lead, Rajat, and his friends and romantic love interest. This show not only revolves around only the male lead but also shows his equations with multiple characters and their impact on his life, directly or indirectly.
Season 1, released in 2018, starts with a refreshing narration with terms from chemistry, attracting audiences, specifically the younger generation. The season revolves mainly around Rajat and his crush on his fellow tuition mate, Ishita. Rajat, his friends, and Ishita spend time together by eating momos after their class, studying together, and spending their available free time chatting with each other, making us reminiscent of our school days.
Their teacher, Pradeep (starring Deepak Sumitra Jagdish), acts as a guide and mentor for them in dealing with the exams, relationships, and stress that comes with it at that age. The season ends with Rajat and Ishita getting closer to each other and starting a relationship.

Released in 2019, season 2 was an upgrade to the 1st season, showcasing each character having their own story and narrative in the show. The story proceeds with Ishita and Rajat working on their relationship, with ups and downs in their personal life breaking them apart.
This season hits home by showcasing the dynamics of Indian parents with their children, their expectations, and the career choices that the teenagers are compelled to make, expecting a successful career.
The icing on the cake of this season would be episode 5, where Pradeep (one who runs and teaches in the Sunshine tuition center), being a sensible teacher and mentor to his students, makes Rajat’s mother understand gentle parenting, acceptance of children as they are and the importance of ‘home.’
Ishita’s character arc, from being the love interest of the lead to having her own depth of character, makes you root for her and her growth. This season ends with Rajat and Ishita agreeing to be friends and Sunshine Tuition Centre facing threats of not continuing its business in the same place.
The Season 3 plot starts where season 2 ends, with Sunshine Centre being shifted to Pradeep Sir’s house, where he takes tuition to the same batch at concessional fees. Ishita and Rajat continue to be friends, and Ishita draws a clear line to Rajat, while Rajat wants to be more than a friend.
Season 3 is a gem of a season in Flames, with different narrations being showcased. Besides the friendship among the leads, it explores more into their personal life and family issues.
Whereas Ishita struggles with her own personal traumatic past and is working on her mental health at present, her father stands strong for her and comes across as a model of a parent with his cool persona.
Rajat, on the other hand, finds it hard to convey his choices regarding his further studies to his father unless his brother intervenes to help him with the same. Pandu and Anusha (friends of Rajat and Ishita), with their comic timing and cat-and-mouse relationship, make it a delight to watch them whenever they are on screen.
What Happened at the End of Flames Season 4?
Season 4 explored the characters in their final year of schooling as they come across new challenges and make decisions that will have an impact on their future. Rajat and Pandu fight amongst them, with tensions rising because of their board exams and the fear of not being enough.
The Sunshine Centre is closed, and Pradeep gives in to the financial pressure to work for a private coaching academy to make ends meet, giving up on his moral goal of providing hassle-free education to the children.
This season ended with Rajat and Ishita working out their differences in choosing different places to continue their college education, implying that they may continue their relationship as a long-distance relationship.
The final episode has its heart in the right places, showcasing the characters of Rajat’s parents being supportive and understanding of him and the pressure of board exams.
What Can We Expect from Flames Season 5?
Season 4 doesn’t seem to be the finale to the story of Rajat, Ishita, and the other characters of Flames. Flames Season 5 could probably explore the long-distance relationship of Rajat and Ishita and explore their lives as college students, with 5-6 episodes of 30-minute running time.
New characters and drama could be introduced, which may strengthen or cause misunderstandings between the main couple. It could potentially explore more of Ishita’s growth as a person moving on from her past and Rajat’s exploration regarding his passion in life.
I really look forward to the story of Pradeep Sir and the revamped Sunshine center, as his character arc from being just a teacher in earlier seasons to a person who is a teacher with a goal to support students in their education and personal life, no matter what, keeps me intrigued.
Panday and Anusha’s dynamics are one of the things that make this series a fun yet interesting watch besides the plot. Flames Season 5 could explore more of their relationship and comical antics.
