Chapelwaite tells the story of the Boone family. Captain Charles Boone has just lost his wife at sea and plans to fulfill his wife’s last wish. He has received the Chapelwaite property from a cousin, and together with his children, he moves into Preacher’s Corners, Maine.

Charles plans on giving his children a warm home and family as his wife desires. However, things do not go as planned. The mourning Boone family is not welcome in Preacher’s Corner. And this has something to do with Charle’s family history. He himself is surprised at how little he knows about his family.

Charles and his children, Honor, Tane and Loa, find adjusting to life in the unwelcoming small town difficult. The creepy, gloomy and secluded manor also does not help. They do have one ally. And it is a young author, Rebecca Morgan. Charles hires her to look after the children, and in a town full of hostile people, she is the only hope of friendship and comfort that the family has.

Things take a dark turn when mysterious and scary things start happening at the manor. The family is spooked by the dark history of mental disorders that runs in the family. Charles finds out from former housekeeper Mrs Clovis that Marcella was found with a scissor in her neck, Stephen hanged himself, and Phillip took his own life by walking into the sea. However, when Charles tries to dig up Stephen’s body, it is gone.

This deepens the doubt that those who die in the Boone family do not remain dead for long. His search for the truth leads Charles to the Frigate Island Hospital and to Dr Frost. Charles finds out about vermiphobia, or fear of worms, that runs in the family.

He himself has started to hallucinate worms in unusual places and learns that this is just the beginning of the mental illness that runs in the family. Meanwhile, the mansion continues to be vandalised by men in hoods, and the townspeople are more hostile toward the Boones.

However, one mysterious entity is helping the family by killing their enemies and hanging them outside the manor. Charles must also find a book titled The Mysteries of the Worm that might help him unravel his family mystery.

What happened at the end of Chapelwaite season 1?

The ending of Chapelwaite is powerful and thrilling. Charles and people from the village all assemble to go to Jerusalem’s Lot to kill Jakub. Jakub has Loa with him inside the church and prepares for the worm eclipse. He sings from De Vermis Mysteriis, and the eclipse begins.

Meanwhile, the villagers are fighting their way through the vampires to the church, but the undead overpowers them. In between all the confusion, Rebecca is drawn aside by her vampire father, who offers her his blood. Rebecca declines and tries to emotionally connect to her father, who ultimately lets her go. As the fight intensifies, Charles finally reaches the church with a sacrifice from George.

Inside, Jakub sends Loa to fight her father, but she saves him from one of the vampires waiting to kill him. Loa sides with her father to help defeat Jakub. But Jakun is too powerful. However, Charles successfully overcomes Jakub and chops his head off. But Stephen continues to bring about the worm eclipse.

Charles now has to fight his cousin and make him stop. After the war is over, only Charles, George, Abel, Rebecca and Loa remain. They head back to Chapelwaite, where Honor and Tane are waiting for them. Honor and Tane are a bit uncomfortable because their sister is now a vampire. However, Rebecca tries to bring them together and comfort them.

Charles now thinks of a plan to keep his family safe from the vampires who would still be looking for De Vermis Mysteriis. He becomes a vampire and asks the town’s doctor to sew the book inside him. With the book sewn inside and rising now as a vampire, Charles sets off into the sea, leaving his family behind with Rebecca and Abel.
