‘Animal Kingdom,’ based on David Michôd’s 2010 Australian film, premiered on TNT on June 14, 2016. The crime drama series, created by Jonathan Lisco, centers on the Cody family in Southern California.
The sitcom is based on a teenage kid who travels to live with his estranged relatives—the Codys—after his mother’s dying. There, he becomes immersed in the dark and twisted world of crime, bloodshed, and a whole lot of action—spearheaded by the female leader, Smurf.

ANIMAL KINGDOM SEASON 5 RECAP
Animal Kingdom Season 5 premiered on TNT on July 11th, 2021, three months later than intended due to filming difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
As the Cody family is faced with the terrible loss of Smurf, the family’s matriarch, the season has been full of twists and turns.
After resolving the subsequent pandemonium, the remaining Codys focused on the family’s largest heist to date, a raid on the port with a potential $1.2 million loot.
In the season finale on October 3rd, the gang manages to carry off the heist without a hitch, and as the Cody crew celebrates a job well done, the police discover a worrying find.
Catherine’s body is discovered at the Cabrillo Circle Development after she vanishes at the end of Season 1.
POSSIBLE ANIMAL KINGDOM SEASON 6 STORY
Throughout season 5, the Codys have been coping with Smurf’s death, leaving a gap in their personal and professional lives. With her death, the family is thrown into disorder due to the lack of a leader, and attacks from others seeking vengeance make matters worse. Smurf’s past tells more stories in the fifth season, including how she raised her children while still developing a massive and powerful criminal enterprise. J and Deran emerge as the new leaders of the Cody crime family in the season finale. The money they obtain from selling Smurf’s apartment buildings, they decide to launder it through their enterprises, J’s bowling alley, and Deran’s pub.
The sixth season is bound to revisit the past as there will be more focus on the dynamic between Julia, Pope, and Baz. We’ll have to wait and see what the future holds for J as he comes dangerously near to Penny and ramps up his criminal operations. Deran’s tavern was a legal business until the season 5 finale when he chose to use it to launder money. This might bring a fresh spate of issues for him, given that the DEA already has its eyes on him. Additionally, with the discovery of Catherine Blackwell’s body, Pope may be in big trouble.

ANIMAL KINGDOM SEASON 6 Release Date
Season 6 of Animal Kingdom began filming in early March and will conclude in August 2021. However, it will be some time before the much-awaited final season begins showing.
Even when it’s done filming, the series still requires some time for post-production work, and usually, TNT typically broadcasts the new installments between May and July. So, fans should expect the release date for Season 6 of Animal Kingdom to be sometime during the summer of 2022.
Following the Season 5 finale, fans turned to social media to express their enthusiasm for Season 6. “I’m stoked for next season, but not stoked that this is the final season,” one fan tweeted.
