The Newsreader Season 2 Episode 1-6 Recap Summary
By now, a year has gone by, and Helen and Dale have cemented themselves as ‘The Golden Couple of News.’ Hawke and Howard square off on Election Night 1987 as Geoff Walters, their rival, makes a widely reported return on a competing network.
But then a catastrophe befalls Melbourne following a startling mass shooting. Helen races to report the horrific aftermath, but many start to feel that she is taking advantage of the disaster, and she becomes unpopular. International global markets crash simultaneously, plunging Helen deeper into a dilemma made worse by a gossip journalist who seems determined to expose her tumultuous history.
Helen runs away and asks troubled CEO Charlie Tate for assistance. Helen is under pressure to speak with an ardent Aboriginal activist in the thick of the 1988 Bicentennial celebrations. Dale is covertly preparing a lavish marriage proposal in the meantime.
In addition, Kay Walters, the daughter of Geoff and Evelyn, approaches “The News At Six” with her story of addiction. This complicates things further and puts Helen and Dale in a demanding moral position that goes against their personal and professional ethics as journalists.
