Dagashi Kashi, the anime, is the shōnen adaptation of a manga of the same name written and Illustrated by Kotoyama. The manga was serialised in Shogakukan’s shōnen magazine and was published from June 25, 2014, to April 11, 2018. The manga was also adapted into light novels titled Dagashi Kashi: Mō Hitotsu no Natsu Yasumi. Though the manga had eleven tankōbon volumes, the light novel was published in a single volume by the same publisher on December 18, 2015.
The first season of the anime aired in Japan from January 7, 2016, to March 31, 2016. The first season was produced by Feel Inc, but for the second season the production was done by Tezuka Productions and it aired from January 12, 2018, to March 30, 2018. The directors were changed between seasons and as such the anime style was very different.

Dagashi Kashi Storyline: What Would It Be Able To Be About?
In the first season, we are introduced to Kokonotsu Shikada, our main protagonist. He is an ordinary-looking boy who wants dreams of becoming famous as a manga writer. He wants to stand out among his peers with his manga skills but his father wants him to take over their family candy shop business after him. He does not hesitate to break his father’s heart and tell him no.
The Shikada family owns a Dagashi shop for over nine generations. Dagashi shops are small shops which sell old-school candy. Yō, Kokonotsu’s father wants to pass his shop down to his son but his son keeps refusing his wishes. Enter Hotaru Shidare. The female protagonist of the show is a young girl, set to inherit her father’s world-famous sweets company. She wants the company to sell the best candy in the world and wants to hire Yō. At first, Yō is reluctant but then he decides to give a condition. He would join Hotaru’s company is she would be able to convince Kokonotsu to take over the shop after him.
The anime proceeds to show us Hotaru’s various methods to convince Kokonotsu to take over his father’s shop. Through the seasons we are introduced to other characters who add different elements to the story. The show is a comedy set in a rustic background and is nostalgic for its viewers.
What Happened At The End Of Dagashi Kashi Season 2??
In the season finale, we see Kokonotsu heartbroken after he realises that his manga is not up to par with the others in the business. He gets stuck at the train station with Hotaru who he thought he might never see again. After they share a sweet time in the waiting room, reading Super Mario manga and eating instant noodles they make their way back to the shop.
The other employees of the shop, worried after being unable to reach Kokonotsu are very relieved to have him back. Hotaru on hearing Kokonotsu being addressed as the manager is ecstatic that her prediction of his fate came to pass. She declares that she now wants Kokonotsu to work for her own company and would prefer him over Yō, just as Yō makes his way from the hospital.
As Kokonotsu try to make sense of everything happening around him, a mysterious man comes to the shop. He is Beniyutaka Shidare, Hotaru’s brother who is also interested in Kokonotsu. Amidst the clamour of everyone declaring their need for Kokonotsu, he makes his escape, trying to run from the expectations of others.
