Housing Complex C is a Japanese anime television series premiered in the United States on Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block on October 2, 2022. It is currently exclusively broadcast in English, but a Japanese dub is in the works.

What Is The Storyline Housing Complex C

Kimi Shirokado is an eccentric teenager whose complaint about the heatwave leads her and the elderly residents of Housing Complex C to discover weird things when retrieving an ice machine from a hidden storage cellar. Over the next few days, Kimi befriends a girl named Yuri Koshide, whose family moved into the apartment complex alongside interns from the Middle East. Later, Kimi invites Yuri to the storage cellar, where they discover the frightening drawings of Hideo, a Hikikomori. They return Hideo’s pen to him, at which point he sketches a cute image of them. The next day, when Kimi comes to ask Hideo to shaved ice, she accidently treads on his anime figure after seeing a thick mound of moss inside his open bedroom door.

Kimi attempts to defuse tensions between the renters and Mr. Koshide’s interns by throwing a shaved ice party as the police unofficially disregard Hideo’s disappearance. As preparations continue, however, the elder tenants decide to check the weird heaps of dead fish on the property, assuming that one of the interns is to blame, only for the mystery to grow when one of them volunteers to stand guard. The party begins with Kentaro Yoshii detecting something is amiss when the shaved ice syrup tastes off and discovering that his tenant’s apartment is growing moss and the syrup is polluted with the severed head of a dog.

Takashi helps temporarily defuse tensions between the housing residents and interns, bemoaning that the wheel has come full round and that watch groups would foment greater mistrust as even Kanchan is betrayed by his fellow interns, much to Rubel’s chagrin. Takashi realizes that the weird occurrences are connected to the lyrics of an ancient song, but he has no leads until he sees Rubel off, discovers that the genuine Kurodo Shrine is located behind Housing Complex C, and makes a horrifying discovery. Kimi, Yuri, and Kanchan realize Takashi is missing and begin searching for him as the day progresses.

Their investigation leads them to the storage cellar, where they discover fragments of Hideo’s drawings and a chamber where Kimi discovers a clump of moss and a mural of fish people worshipping to the mountain deity, which Yuri attempts to decipher despite Kimi’s pleas not to. Kimi reveals that the moss is all that is left of Takashi as the two go, concluding that the moss is all that is left of Takashi. Kimi returns to her apartment and asks the embryo she refers to as her mother if things will eventually come full circle.
