The Plotline of A Model Family seems closely inspired by Breaking Bad, but as the story progresses, we get to see the loose of inspiration of the series from the legendary series. Just like Money Heist – Korea and All of Us are Dead, A Model Family too is a story inspired by the big fishes of the west. Is “A Model Family” is a Korean Adaption of “Breaking Bad”?
Compared to Breaking Bad, A Model Family differs from the legendary series in many ways. The basic phenomenon of indulging in the drug business to pay financial debts is what drives both the series ( for that fact, every series related to drugs has it). Still, besides that, both the series have different outcomes, screenplay, and plots. Both the series are enjoyable on their end. Still, we can’t deny the fact that the series A Model Family seems quite much inspired by Breaking Bad.

A Model Family Season 1 Summary
Professor Park Dong-Ha is an assistant professor at a university who desires a promotion so he may provide for his family more adequately. Byeong-gu, his schoolmate and colleague professor, persuades him to bribe Professor Kim, the son of the director of the Korea University Foundation, in order to receive a promotion. Therefore, Professor Park removes funds from his savings account and gives them to Professor Kim. At the beginning of the series, Professor Park learns that Professor Kim has been detained on s*xual assault charges through a news article. Soon after, Byeong-gu notifies him that neither his money nor his promotion will be returned. Kang Eun-Ju, the wife of Professor Park, has been saving this money for their son Hyun-heart woo’s surgery. Hyun-woo was born with a weak, potentially fatal heart.
After losing all of his money, Professor Park feels utterly despondent. His family is disintegrating, and he is powerless to save it. When a car hits him from behind when he is parked on a secluded road, he wants to cry out loud. As soon as he exits his vehicle and inspects the other vehicle, he discovers large amounts of blood-stained money along with the bodies of two persons. Professor Park urgently places the money in a bag and transports it to a separate location in his automobile when he needs funds. Then, he transported the SUV and the deceased to his residence in Yongbong village, where he cleaned the vehicle and bury the deceased in his backyard. Later, he drives the vehicle and parks it near a lake in Deoksong-Ri Village, where he dumps one of the deceased men’s cell phones into the water.
The money that Professor Park has stolen belongs to the Yongsoo Ring, a South Korean narcotics distribution ring. Hwang Yong-soo, the leader of the Yongsoo Ring, delivers the money back to the Sangsoo Ring in the identical SUV that Professor Park had discovered. After the money was stolen, Yong-soo summons his muscleman Ma Kwang-chul and instructs him to find the money, without which the Sangseon Ring will execute them. Kwang-chul goes to Professor Park’s area in search of money because that was the last place the SUV stopped, and he believes that someone in the neighborhood has stolen the money.
Kang Joo-Hyun, a narcotics officer investigating the Sangseon Ring, follows Kwang-chul into the neighborhood. Later, it is discovered that Joo-Hyun inserted an undercover officer named Yoo Han-Cheol into the Yongseo Ring. Professor Park discovered Han-Cheol dead in the SUV and buried him in his backyard. Joo-Hyun holds herself responsible for Han-disappearance, Cheol’s, and as a result, she initiates a tough operation to provide him closure. Professor Park has bundles of notes and enough money to provide a lavish lifestyle for his family. Still, as an average family man, he has no idea how to launder the money, so it rots in his garage until someone discovers it.
